I went shopping for the SNAP/Food Stamp Challenge on Sunday evening, and it was surprisingly difficult. It took a lot of preparation, and I spent almost an hour and a half bouncing from aisle to aisle trying to figure out how I could get the most for my money. I talk more about my grocery shopping experience in the video above.
Before I left for the grocery store, I spent some time plotting out my plan of attack. I clipped coupons, checked the grocery store’s weekly specials and scoured the Internet for tips. Here are a few things I found online:
- Cory Booker’s Food Stamp Challenge: More SNAP recipients share advice (Huffington Post)
- Laurie Radovsky finds healthy way to take the Food Stamp Challenge in Minneapolis (Twin Cities Daily Planet)
- SNAP Retail Locator (USDA)
Today officially marks Day 1 of the challenge, so I’ll be updating my blog throughout the week. In the meantime, here are a couple of previous blog posts I’ve written about the challenge:

You should really make that dollar strech and look at lower quality foods at stores like Aldi, Save A Lot and Pay and pack it.
True. I wish I would have had more time yesterday. It would have been great to shop around a bit to compare prices.
