While there aren’t any huge surprises, it’s significant that true freshman outside linebacker Jaylon Smith is getting a start. According to Notre Dame notes, Smith will be the first freshman linebacker to start for Notre Dame since Kory Minor in 1995. So, needless to say, everyone’s a little excited to see what he has to offer.
Austin Collinsworth beat out Elijah Shumate for safety, though head coach Brian Kelly says both will play on Saturday. Looks like Christian Lombard will be holding down right guard instead of right tackle for now.
Also interesting to see a three-way tie between Carlisle, McDaniel and Bryant for the number two running back. I’m eager to see how those reps shake out against Temple since Kelly hasn’t been shy about revealing that a lot of young players are going to see the field on Saturday.
