Two independent media outlets are reporting that Notre Dame quarterback Gunner Kiel intends to transfer schools.
Irish Sports Daily and Irish Illustrated are each reporting that a source close to the program informed them that the redshirted freshman “has informed the coaching staff of his intentions.” Notre Dame has not released a statement addressing talk of Kiel’s departure.
Kiel did not see the field as a freshman but was expected to compete with Everett Golson and Tommy Rees for playing time this year.
Kiel, the top quarterback of the 2012 recruiting class, initially made waves when he decommitted from Indiana to LSU, then left LSU for Notre Dame in January 2012.
Neither Irish Sports Daily nor Irish Illustrated have confirmed Kiel’s motives for wanting to transfer.
