Last weekend, the 31st Annual Great American Beer Festival sponsored by the Brewers Association, was hosted in Denver, CO. It is the largest commercial beer competition and festival in the world. A total of 252 gold, silver, and bronze medals were awarded in 84 categories from 138 different beer styles. There were 4,809 entries from 745 breweries from 49 states and Washington D.C.

The five categories with most entries were American-Style India Pale Ale, which has been the most entered category since 2001, (252 entries), Imperial India Pale Ale (149 entries), Herb and Spice Beer (134 entries), American-Style Pale Ale (124 entries), and American-Style Strong Pale Ale (120 entries).
In addition to the judging, attendees were able to sample from more than 3,100 beers from 624 different breweries in the festival hall, as well as attend workshops presenting everything imaginable related to beer and brewing.
