Chip at Iechyd Da has done it again - Breakfast Cookies Stout (milk stout, 6% ABV, IBUs 
38). Not only is this one of the best beers that I’ve had recently, but it may just be one of my top favorite Iechyd Da beers. I know, I know. Many of you have heard me say that my favorite beer is the one that is in front of me. And while it is extremely difficult for me to choose a favorite beer or even a favorite style, Breakfast Cookies is an incredibly tasty beer.
I actually happened to be at the brewery the day that Chip introduced 75 fresh whole vanilla beans and 10 lbs of cocoa nibs into the fermenter, but I had to wait until last Thursday to get my first taste. As the title suggests, it’s just like a cookie for breakfast – lots of chocolate and vanilla, a bit of coffee, and some nice creamy sweetness from the milk sugar. This is one of those beers that I would choose if I was interested in having a milk shake for dessert (or breakfast), and in my book, that is a big compliment.
And if you were lucky enough to be at the brewery tonight (I unfortunately was not), you may have gotten in on a firkin of Breakfast Cookies fermented on toasted pecans. This firkin was in honor of Saint David’s Day (the patron saint of Wales).
Speaking of Saints, St. Patrick’s Day is just around the corner, and Chip is getting his green beer ready. Green as in organic, not the color. Kiss Me I’m Stout (should come in around 5% ABV) will be an organic wheat stout using all organic grain and hops. He is experimenting with a good amount of wheat which is something that he doesn’t normally do. This will be tapped soon and run through St. Patty’s Day.
Yesterday, Summer posted on Facebook that all 5 fermenters (yes, that includes the two new ones recently installed) are full at the same time. So between Chip’s brewing, and Nicole busy with the test batches, there are 7 brews that will be ready soon. Check often for tap list changes over the next several weeks.
Other items in the news for Iechyd Da: Mug Club renewals are slated for May. Current Mug Clubbers will have the first right of refusal and first chance to re-up. If you are interested in rejoining the club for the coming year, please plan to renew May 1st – May 26th. Again, the cost will be $40 for the year. Any mugs not renewed in this time frame will go up for adoption to the waiting list—and it’s gonna be a long one!
