Right before Christmas, the Goshen Martin’s Supermarket expanded their craft beer
selection. This included more than 20 different breweries, with an emphasis on Michigan and Indiana beer. I was really happy to see a good singles selection for creating your own mixed 6-pack.
Last time I was shopping there, I put together my picks for a hoppy mixed pack and a malty mixed pack. I have had each of the beers picked below, and they are my favorites based on what was available at Martin’s at the time of my visit.
Hoppy 6-pack
Schlafly Tasmanian IPA (7.2% ABV, IBUs 60)
Bell’s Two Hearted (IPA, 7% ABV)
Dark Horse Crooked Tree (IPA, 6% ABV)
Founder’s Red’s Rye (Rye IPA, 6.6% ABV, IBUs 70)
Victory Hop Devil (IPA, 6.7% ABV)
Sierra Nevada Torpedo (IPA, 7.2% ABV, IBUs 65)
I would have substituted Flat 12 Bier Werks Half Cycle IPA (6% ABV, IBUs 104.1)for the Torpedo, but there were none left at the time I was there.
Matly 6-pack
Bell’s Best Brown (5.8% ABV)
Founders Porter (6.5% ABV, IBUs 45)
New Holland Cabin Fever (Brown Ale, 6% ABV)
Flat 12 Bier Werks Pogues Run Porter (5.5% ABV, IBUs 34.1)
Southern Tier 2X Stout (double milk stout, 7.5% ABV)
Barley Island Dirty Helen (Brown Ale, 5.2% ABV, IBUs 25)
The best part about this is that I can pick up a 6-pack of great beer while grocery shopping, without having to make another stop on the way home. Next time you’re at Martin’s put together your own mixed 6-pack. I’m a little late on the draw since these are already gone, but they did have 2 cases of Bell’s Hopslam. They didn’t last until the writing of this post.
