August 19th I was photographing the removal of the front of the Elkhart Armory. Three women walked past . A little while later they returned.
One of the women carried a package on her head. Perfectly balanced, the white bag was carried with what looked like years of experience and ease.
It was a heartwarming display of grace and a reminder that we are a nation woven from the threads of many many different experiences.
It can be easy to forget where this country came from. We are not born of a single stock of people or culture. Our country is the product of many wonderful peoples and traditions.
Seeing an example of the richness of that makes up the fabric of our national experience was a helpful reminder to me of who we all are.
The road is long. Let’s ride.
