Indiana Gov. Mike Pence is “Sarah Strong.”
Pence met Wednesday, Oct. 2, with Elkhart-area business and government leaders at a luncheon in downtown Elkhart, after an economic meeting in South Bend and a ribbon cutting at the new Drew Industries headquarters on Elkhart’s northeast side.
Near the beginning of his remarks to the Greater Elkhart Chamber of Commerce luncheon attendees, Pence said, “I was moved as I arrived in town today to hear the story of young Sarah Crane, a 15-year-old girl in this community and struggling with colon cancer, a disease that affected my immediate family.
“Sarah has our prayers. But let me also say with this courageous Elkhart Memorial young lady, I think she personifies everything that is great about this community. Facing hardship, she has stepped forward to lead with resilience and faith and courage. Let me just say, your governor also is Sarah Strong,” he said, lifting up a purple “Sarah Strong” shirt.
“Can we give a standing ovation to Sarah Crane for her inspirational leadership,” he asked, as the crowd in the Lerner Crystal Ballroom rose to applaud.
