It’s not called Curly Cone anymore, but the ice cream stand at 917 W. Beardsley is back.
Eddy & Rosy’s Ice Cream Shop opened Saturday, according to co-owner Rosy Lopez.
The stand opened decades ago and was a favorite spot for people in the neighborhood.
People loved the soft-serve ice cream. They loved the tenderloins. And when you mention Curly Cone, a common response is, “I remember go there when I was a kid.”
The stand didn’t reopen for the season in March 2008 and has been closed since. But in December Edi Lopez and his sister Rosy Lopez purchased the property and started remodeling.
She has restaurant experience. He’s getting some quickly. When I was there Wednesday, he was with a repairman looking at a machine.
Soft-serve comes in nearly 30 flavors thanks to something called Flavor Burst. I got Blue Moon, a throwback flavor that people say tastes like cotton candy, Fruit Loops and all sorts of other things.
You can get shakes, sundaes and cones with the ice cream. You can also get burgers, hot dogs, tacos and quesadillas.
But I don’t think you can get a tenderloin. You may have to go over to Cappy’s nearby for that now.
Rosy said customers have been really pleased the ice cream stand is open. “Every single customer said (they) were happy,” she said.
