The Electric Brew has been at the same location since it opened in 1996, but within a week or two, will be in another.
The Brew is moving from 108 E. Washington St., Goshen, to 118 E. Washington. It’s almost literally across the street.
Better World Books moved around the corner and down Main Street, opening the new space.
Owner Myron Bontrager said this week that the tentative moving date is Sunday, July 28. The last coffee would be served at the current location on Saturday, July 27, and there may be a champagne toast at 10 p.m. at closing.
Why move across the street from what has been a vibrant location? Bontrager gains nearly twice as much space and two small conference rooms for business meetings.
How will I get my coffee? You’ll walk in the front door and toward the small windows over the counter. (Those are the sneeze guards.) You’ll order and keep moving counter-clockwise until you get your coffee and/or food. Roasting will also happen in the new space.
Will the place feel the same? Somewhat. It’ll have couches and tables, but also big windows that let in more light. “We’re going to change as little as possible. I don’t know what that means,” he said.
Will the artwork move to the new location? Yep. Bontrager said the paintings that have been there since the beginning and concert posters will be used prominently in the new one. “It’s part of the history,” Bontrager said.
What could delay the move? As always, inspections. But work’s progressing quickly and counters could start leaving the current Brew for the new one very soon.
Will it have a drive-through window? No. Bontrager tried, but couldn’t get city approval.
