Nope. Not really at this point.
George Anagnos said the rumors that have been surfacing about Casey’s reopening in downtown Elkhart aren’t true.
People are hoping that it could reopen at 411 S. Main St. And if you remember its glory days, the Elkhart Jazz Festival weekend meant the place was packed.
The former restaurant and bar closed in 2009 and the Anagnos family purchased the place. They did some cleaning of the old building and the old Casey’s awning is gone, but there aren’t any plans for the building at this point.
523 customer Jeff Few said he’d love to see something like a California Pizza Kitchen go into the space. George, who owns 523 with his brother Tony, said at this point they have no plans, but I’m pretty sure that if someone wanted to buy the place, they’d listen to an offer.
What would you like in the space across the street from the Lerner Theatre?
Another downtown restaurant that’s still shuttered is Mad Anthony’s. The large restaurant in the 500 block of S. Main Street has been on the market and some would love to see a new place go in there as well. But for this year’s Elkhart Jazz Festival, it’s still empty too.
