Auctioneer Bernie Payne says he’ll auction the equipment at Poor Tony’s Restaurant & Lounge on Feb. 18 and that the building will be torn down later this spring.
The historic Elkhart restaurant fell on hard times in recent years. A couple of efforts to reopen it in the past several years failed.
On Dec. 1, a man shot himself in the parking lot after killing a woman at another location.
The auction at 2110 W. Franklin St., Elkhart, will include kitchen equipment (do you need a french fry cutter?), electric signs and dining room equipment. The sale bill says that “pictures of past restaurants in Elkhart” will also be sold.
“It’s in good shape. We got it all ready to sell,” Payne said.
Why not sale the building? They just put a lot of money in the outside of the building to get it to look good, and to tear it down would be a waste. The biggest problem with their location is that you have to park in the back, and no one knows that they are open, if there was away for them to get front parking they would be busy
