Goodbye pizza: Two Elkhart County restaurants on their way out

Two Elkhart County restaurants are closing or already closed.

Il Forno, 127 S. Main St., announced it will be closing on Dec. 21.

The post, presumably from owner Mario Garber, indicates that after seven years, the restaurant will shut down.

I haven’t had a chance to talk to Mario yet, but hope to soon.

The restaurant business is hard. He and his family gave it a good go. I wonder if another downtown restaurant will emerge as he leaves.

It also appears that 17 Cuisine is done. The restaurant appears to be out of business, the phone number doesn’t work and the Facebook page is gone. A reader Jon A. also tipped me that it appears to be done and said there’s a “Warning No Trespassing” sign on the door. That’s a pretty good indication it’s not open.

I didn’t eat there. I also didn’t hear a lot of good things as Becca and Darren Cornell tried a third restaurant.

If you have other information, shoot me an email at mking@etruth.com.

Maybe the people trying to start an Indian restaurant in Goshen will look into the Il Forno location. Because that would be awesome.

Not surprised il forno is closing. They never knew how to run their business very well. That combined with goofy hours is sure to shut any business down. When will downtown business owners realize you can just be ope when they want to be? If you don’t have regular consistent hours you can’t expect customers to come.

We did eat there once and it was terrible. They used Italian sausage instead of choriso in the tacos. Fish was burnt, second batch not done. Tasted terrible, heavy weird breading.

Cuisine on 17 just had a livingsocial deal today. Hopefully no one bought it.
